Accommodation/Welfare

On your first day at our school, you will attend an orientation and undergo placement testing, to ensure you are placed in the correct level class. Aspect ILA has a long-standing reputation for the quality of its welfare services. We offer 24-hour availability of staff, native language counselors, as well as assistance with doctor and medical appointments and staff to talk to about any other welfare issues.

We also have dedicated accommodation staff to assist with your living arrangements. We work with over 700 host families, to make sure we have a family to suit every individual’s needs. In addition students can choose hostel accommodation or flatting. The accommodation officer will give you advice about these options.

Activities

We will help you to make the most of the local area with a wide range of action, adventure and exploration trips made available. Some popular excursions include:

White water rafting; overnight trip to Kaikoura to go whale watching, visit the seal colony or swim with dolphins; jetboating on the Waimakariri River; windsurfing, sailing and sea kayaking; weekend trip to Queenstown for bungy jumping and other adrenaline pumping activities; an evening at a Maori meeting house with traditional food and music.

Core subjects and specialist areas

The New Zealand school year runs from February to December, during which students can choose from English, Social studies, Science and Math to more specialized topics like Design Technology, Food and Nutrition, Drama and Psychology and even Maori classes.
