Introduction:

The University of Otago Language Centre and Foundation Year are part of the University of Otago, which is located in Dunedin, in the South Island of New Zealand.

The University of Otago was the first university to be established in New Zealand ((1869) and is internationally recognised for the quality of its teaching and research. The University offers world class courses to 19,000 students including over 2,000 international students, from 80 countries.

Otago’s strengths are in medical and health sciences as well as computer, natural and physical sciences.

Our Business school is a member of the prestigious PIM Network and our MBA is ranked in the top 100 in the world.

The Language Centre and Foundation Year is located on the university campus in our own purpose-built facility.

We are part of University of Otago, so you will have access to resources including laboratories, computer suites, libraries, gymnasiums, lecture theatres, Clubs and Societies, and recreation and health services.

When you enrol you will get a University of Otago student id-card, giving you discounts on products, services, entertainment, and travel.

Student advisors are available to help students with:

· The University of Otago Language Centre offers one term of 6 weeks and three terms of 12 weeks. This includes 22.5 hours of tuition per week, supervised self study and activities. Only15 students per class

· We use the latest teaching technologies. You will use our Sony multimedia language lab, i-mac computer suite and Independent Learning Centre, and you will have access to all University of Otago resources

The University of Otago Foundation Year

The University of Otago Foundation Year was established in 1997 in association with the University of New South Wales in Australia

Foundation Year may provide admission to all universities in New Zealand and many excellent universities in Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada, if you meet the academic requirements

300 students over two intakes from 30 countries

Six streams designed to prepare you for the degree you will study at university. By meeting the required academic standards at Foundation Year, you are guaranteed entry to the first year of your degree

Streams – Commerce, Commerce Essentials, Arts, Health Science, Applied Science, Life Science

Guaranteed places in University of Otago Health Science fields if you meet certain requirements

You are taught in lecture theatres and laboratories on campus so you feel comfortable with the university environment.

Access to University of Otago resources including laboratories, computer suites, libraries, gymnasiums, lecture theatres, Clubs and Societies, and recreation and health services

Foundation Year classes are small so there is time to give you individual attention.

There are two main intakes - February and June

A Bridging Course, provides extra tuition before starting study in February or June
