Roncalli College New Zealand

 

Roncalli College is in South Canterbury (New Zealand) and enrolls 450 students from Year 9 to Year 13. A growing number of international students are taking advantage of the quality education we offer.

 

 

As a Catholic College Roncalli is proud of the culture that is evident at our school. Roncalli is the family name of Pope John XXIII. He steered the church on a path of renewal.

We believe in Gospel values as witnessed in Jesus Christ. Ours is a tradition of service and concern for the poor. We are Co-educational for rich and balanced learning.

THE SETTING

 

The College is located in Timaru, a town of 28,000, less than 2 hours drive from the international airport of Christchurch and two hours north of Dunedin. Timaru's coastal location and access to the lakes and mountains of the central South Island make it a very attractive education centre.

 

 

CURRICULUM


Our range of subjects caters for wide interests and attracts students from countries such as Brazil, Finland, Germany, Japan and Samoa, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Korea.

 

 

Academic Programs
The College offers a broad-based program in academic subjects. These include English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences and Technology. In addition many students study a range of non-academic disciplines such as business studies, hospitality and career based subjects.

FACILITIES

 

The College is set in 3.12 hectares of grounds. The 13 free standing buildings are all modern and include a new and well resourced art/technology block, gymnasium and two computer suites. Within the immediate vicinity there is access to squash courts, a covered swimming pool and our near neighbours the Aoraki Polytechnic.

 

 

SPORT

 

The college has a strong tradition in team sports: hockey, netball, rugby, basketball, cricket and soccer.

 

Extra curricular programmes
There is also strength in other sports such as table tennis, skiing and yachting. The natural environment of South Canterbury offers many outdoor pursuits such as camping, tramping and rock climbing. A vibrant Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme provides young New Zealanders with a worthy challenge.

CULTURE


The College is involved in a range of activities throughout the year including sports exchanges, the School Fair, speech contests, variety concert, and a production involving all year-groups within the school.

 

Music
The choir, concert band and a chamber music group are very active. Tuition is available in a variety of musical instruments as well as piano.

 

 

ACCOMMODATION

 

All international students are accommodated in homestays with local families. Students have their own room and live as part of the f

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

 

All international students must be able to speak some English, and must be willing to sit, if requested, written and spoken examinations to assess their English. Students with a low level of English may be asked to attend an orientation programme before beginning at Roncalli College. This can be arranged through the College. Charges for such a course will be additional to the Annual Tuition Fee.

All students will receive additional English support and tuition from our specialist ESOL teacher.
